The DFW Bassmasters Reel Kids Casting Event
Date held: May 16th, 2009 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm
On May 16th at Lynn Creek Park on Joe Pool Lake, kids competed in a Reel Kids Casting Competition put on by the DFW Bassmasters (a Texas TBF sanctioned bass club). There were 3 ways to score, flipping, pitching and casting at a target. This special competition develops and demonstrates the basic techniques that everyday anglers use while actually fishing. During the event, participating children were given hands-on instruction in three basic techniques that are used to present a fishing lure: flipping, pitching, and casting. The participating children then aim for a target and attempt to get their lure to land on the target by using each of the three basic techniques. Points were awarded where the lure lands. The highest points gain from the participant is the winner.
The youth contestants faced the target at a length of 20 feet and utilized all three basic techniques, flipping, casting, and pitching with a spin cast reel.
The members of DFW Bassmasters assisted each youth in the competition.
The event was free to enter and was extremely competitive and was enjoyed by all!
With a total of 15 entries the winner was 10 year old Gary Googe with a total of 50 points. Tied for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th all with 40 points each were Austin Exparza (12), Reid Exparza (10), and Alan Griffin (10).
